As glimpsed below, St. Elmo's developing business area at its northern end helped serve the needs of the growing community. Incorpo-rated in 1905 for the next twenty years, St. Elmo by 1950 and beyond continued to prosper, as reflected with diverse retail, services, man-ufactures, and tourism in the business center.
Part 1, North St. Elmo, formerly Kirklin, around 1900; view from Pine Top near W. 38th Street.  Col. Johnson's adjoining subdivision, the Eastside / St. Elmo addition, is at far left, across the Old Mountain Road.
Parts 2 and 3, the second and third tiers, show scenes of the changing business center, from 1890 to recent years.*
